Usually, the first book of any series is about the details of the storyline and the characters. Thus a lot of time is wasted on these things and the listener gets the chance to listen to the real story very late in the book. The story of Malorie starts after the author describes the darkness which covers the entire area. For five years Malorie has seen people living near her home going mad without any reason.
There is something near her town which just makes people mad before they destroy themselves completely. No one has ever tried to look for the reason behind these happenings and now the town’s population has decreased to a very little number. Some have died and others who had the power have migrated.

Don’t assume anything about these books because the story has enough material in it which can make your head go round.
