When the story begins the man is in Spain and he is working for a guerilla band in the region. During his fights and deadly missions, he has no time for a personal life that’s why he doesn’t try to remember his family and friends. Then he finds Maria who is in really bad condition. After seeing her the first time Robert just starts feeling a bond created between them.
He starts waiting for the end of the war after which they can live happily ever after. Campbell Scott narrates the emotional scenes developing between the two lovers extensively because this love affair gives the story a new twist. The end of the story is tragic like always but the zeal to live is highlighted for sure.
