Not a thriller, in the least. The style of writing was very good but the overall plot and \’big reveal\’ was a giant vat of nothingness. There is a long, dragged out buildup to a connection among the characters that is so basic, as to be laughable. The ending was totally not believable considering (****spoiler alert) one individual abused the child of another. That act isn\’t covered by letting bygones be bygones in real life. Also, another big \’scandal\’ the writer dragged on forever, not revealing for most of the book, involved not reporting a high school fight….. come on. The level of thought that went into this book was minimal. The story was dragged out at least 100 pages more than necessary given the overall plot, climax, and ridiculousness.

The story revolves around Beth, a marriage counselor, her client Danielle and husband Peter, Beth\’s husband Richard and their son Charlie. Also brought into the mix are Beth\’s former love Nick and eventually Danielle\’s mother, Virginia. The story is told from the perspective of Beth and Danielle. I found the story so interesting and moving I didn\’t want to stop reading. There are many twists and turns you won\’t see coming. The ending was not what I expected and satisfying.

Audiobook I Know Your Secret by Ruth Heald
Twists and turns but it\’s what I was left with after finishing that resonates the most. It\’s the re-examining of my own interpretation of the \”secrets\” in my life. Who do I feel most for in this book? Who do I most identify with? A fantastic read!!

Audio I Know Your Secret narrated by Tamsin Kennard
The storyline was good, however, the book dragged…and dragged. I like interaction between the characters, reading their thoughts is irritating to me. Probably won\’t read more books by this author.

The subject of revenge is a deep one. What comes of actually acting on an inescapable need for vengeance? Ruth Heald says, in a note at the end of this book, that she plumbs power imbalances for vivid material. Especially between women, she says. Yet here there is also material to be explored, as a more standard theme yet one which is continually relevant, between women and men. What might be the power imbalances between mother and child, father and child, supervisor and student-in-training or a new employee? Between therapist and patient? Teacher and student in primary or middle grades? Between heterosexual couples having an affair, not married but with a child, married but unable to agree on the direction of their future in an essential way? Between a man and a woman of quite different ages in a relationship, where one had been the mentor of an another? Who can one try to be friends with? And who not? What roles do childhood abuse, previous abusive relationships, deep insecurity, looking for a partner to take care of one, negotiating styles and the partners strengths to weaknesses? What role has anger in life?
