As Jacqueline Carey starts this novel it appears that Imriel’s life has finally got settled as he has tackled all the issues related to his life in a handsome way. Imriel studies at the university for almost a year and this gives him the peace of mind which he was looking for. On his return, things don’t remain normal in the same way because the old rivalry between Imriel and Sidonie again gets heated. Sidonie no doubt happens to be the true heir to the throne but now Imriel also has a craze for power which he is unable to control.
People in the court still think that it is the influence of his mother’s magic that makes him take such a decision. However when the duty calls both of these boys present themselves for service. Together they go into the enemy’s domain to find what the enemy is up to but this also gives them a bright chance to get rid of each other without being caught.

The laws of their land don’t imply in the enemy’s territory so they are not bound by anything. If the listener thinks that Simon Vance was stupendous in Kushiel’s Dart or Kushiel’s Chosen then he should listen to this one. Simon has provided the true magic of voice to this fifth part as the true nature of Imriel gets revealed in this part.
