How can anyone say any more about Little Women? It has been loved and cherished for a couple of centuries. This enchanting story about the four sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, growing up during the American Civil War, is packed with warm relationships, family times, love and heartbreak. The four books follow the sisters as they grow up and start families of their own. it focusses particularly on Jo, the rebel, the one who always defied convention and chose her own way to happiness. Full of gentle life lessons, this is a must-read for young girls. I read it as a child, re-read it several times and still love it.

they way it is written, they language, the setting, the characters, it all come beautifully together to pull you into a forgotten nobler world. it\’s perfect for when you want to be immersed in simpler times when the nobility of the written word exceeds the modern crave of the action and drama. the characters are superbly contoured and as you read more of their character is unveiled.

The saga of the March sisters, from \”Little Women\” through \”Jo\’s Boys,\” follows the four girls from adolescence to the young adulthood of their own children. The latter books are less winning and more preachy than \”Little Women,\” but worth reading if you want to know how all the characters turn out.

Luckily, I\’ve read the books so often I almost know them by heart. That allows me to roll with the reader\’s problems, which include long pauses, coughing, repeating paragraphs, and so forth. I wish whoever does these things would find a more competent reader … or editor!
