It’s Christmas Eve which is a moment in the year when all the family members come together and celebrate the holiest day of the year. Alex has been planning for this particular day for the past many months. He wanted to give quality time to his children, Nana, and especially Bree who has made his life pleasant once again. Bree’s entry into his life has made him forget all the worries and anxieties he used to face in Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls.
Being a family man once again has thus made him more free and contented. Just when the celebrations started in Alex’s house the phone call informed him about a robbery. Someone stole the Church’s poor box and retrieving it was not a big task for Alex. He solved the case and returned home once again for the celebrations.
Soon a second call again interrupted him and his family and this time it was a hostage situation for which Alex was needed by the department. James Patterson perhaps for the first time in the series shows signs of worry on Alex’s face. Alex is worried because he might not get out of this mission alive and in this way he would miss the pleasant time with his family he was planning for a long time.
Michael Boatman, Cristin Milioti, and Stephen Kunken don’t stress too much on the hostage situation. All the effort by the narrators is shown in the emotions of Alex which the audience wants to hear about. Everyone wanted to know how Alex feels about life now after becoming a family man once again. This novel proves that he was always looking for a chance to be happy again from the inside.
