A Wizard Alone audiobook series Young Wizards
Okay, so I like this series.
In this latest21 Young Wizards’ novel, Nita is only partially through the process of recovering from her mother’s untimely death from cancer. Her doubts about her own wizardry keep her from getting involved when her best friend and wizard partner, Kit, gets assigned to see what’s holding up the Ordeal of a young autistic boy named Darryl. But it’s pretty clear, soon, that Nita won’t be able to stay on the sidelines as she forges a link of understanding with Darryl and Kit begins to get trapped in Darryl’s internal world.
This was a pretty good read. I really enjoyed getting to know Kit, in particular, better. Our main characters here are getting experienced with wizardry, so it may not seem quite as new or exciting. The real point of the book, however, is what’s going on in the characters. How both Nita and Kit are handling their situations. What it’s going to take to get Nita back in the saddle and engaged with the world again.
I was slightly irritated that the Lone Power didn’t get a little more credit here. (He can be a great baddie when he’s written right.) I was also irritated that Kit got sent into a situation only Nita really had the skills to handle right. (Because of the way Kit gets into Darryl’s world and the nature of Darryl’s universe, Darryl starts warping him. Only Nita knows how to get through to Darryl in a way that won’t hurt her.) Typical of Duane to underestimate Kit and always let Nita save the day somehow. But, overall, plenty of fun. And by now, you really care about the characters.

Audiobook A Wizard Alone by Diane Duane
Man I love these books!! The research Diane Duane puts into them makes them more than just a simple fantasy read. I learn things when I read her books in this series. In the previous book , Nita struggles with facing the fact that her mom has cancer. Tough enough in any situation but doubly worse as it seems her wizardry can’t save her mom. Plus she faces the typical high school crap. In this book it is Kit who faces a severe “alone” challenge while also dealing with serious changes in his four-legged friend, Ponch. Add the ever-present nastiness of The Lone One and you have yet another great book. Highly recommended.

Audio A Wizard Alone narrated by Christina Moore
The series is a wonderful one with young adult charactures who grow and mature. The magic is practiced in our own universe as well as on other worlds, with the challenges of living among the unknowing, including family. There is an emphasis on the thought that from those who are given much (power), much is expected. The “values” are presented unobtrusively and support the best in humanity, without sugar-coating life’s challenges.
As part of this exciting, engaging series, “A Wizard Alone” is best read after the other five. The concept of autism is creatively presented as part of the continuing story of Nita and Kit.

Free audio A Wizard Alone – in the audio player below
I bought this book because I had read ‘So You Want to Be a Wizard’ (the first book in the series to which this book is the sixth) when I was in elementary school, and for nostalgia’s sake, I wanted to read the whole series. The book came in perfect condition (save a few dings in the softcover from shipping). It was well worth the money!!
