I have read all of Mr.We let\’s books. Yet, why he insists on the constant infusion of homosexuality into the books is beyond me. It almost detracts from the story line.

Once again I get bit when the book is not properly described in the product details page. This story, regardless of all the stage setting, is simply a coming of age story. I hate coming of age stories. I will never be able to suspend disbelief when the \’heroes\’ of the story are teenagers. So utterly lame and unreal. Nor am I interested in the 17 year old girl\’s sexual awakening as a lesbian. Note to publisher and writer: you\’re treading on thin ice … I stopped reading once we hit the point where the heroine got all tingly in the giny when she saw another teenage girl naked. You\’ve got borderline kiddie porn here if there\’s any sexual descriptions at all (like I said, I stopped reading at this point, dunno if there is or isn\’t more graphic details further down the line). The \’coming of age/sexual awakening\’ theme is trite and a grossly boring clich that has never in the history of mankind made a good story better and always makes a poor story worse. Even taking out the pointless sexual aspects, there still remains the stupid coming of age theme where a bunch of teenagers with gumption are sure to overcome things that the adults simply couldn\’t handle (see, it\’s a trope, without reading it I know where this is going). Did not finish, will not buy further books from this author without greater prior inspection. As a courtesy to the author, I know he can do better as he already has in his Shadow Campaigns series which I read.

Audiobook Ashes of the Sun (Burningblade & Silvereye #1) by Django Wexler
Django Wexler is definitely one of the authors who can do no wrong for me. Ashes of the Sun, the first in a new adult fantasy trilogy, is literally everything I love about Wexler. It has a great world, a fantastical story, and a cast of characters who I would die for in a heartbeat. Now AotS, is very different from his The Shadow Campaign series. That one was very military oriented with a hint of magic and this one is the complete opposite. I was hooked and in love with this story from the prologue. Maya and Gyre, our two main characters who are also brother and sister, are great contrasts for a story like this. Maya is very law-abiding where Gyre is very unlawful. Both for valid reasons that are heavily explored throughout the story. Now you might ask whose POV I liked more and I have no answer for you because I loved and enjoyed both. The story is told interchangeably in the sense that one chapter you follow Maya and then the other Gyre. But at different points in the story their stories intertwine so seamlessly. What Wexler also does really well is create a diverse cast of characters. There is so much representation here from LGBTQ+, to characters of different color and race and it is all done so very nicely. His female characters are some of the best in every book he has ever written, they are chef\’s kiss! I am going to squeeze together the overall world and story together because they go hand in hand. The world in AotS is very modern-fantasy-post apocalyptic. It is a world that is very rich with magic and history and we have barely scratched the surface. There is a lot to take in at times, but there is a very informative glossary in the back, but I wouldn\’t say this at all info dumpy. The information is given to you when the story sees fit, which is nice. Onto the overall story, this story is paced so well that I forgot sometimes that I was even reading and the next thing you know I am finished with this book in like three days. It has great adventure, mystery, magic, lore, and some of the best action sequences I have ever read (another thing Wexler is excellent at). Again your following Maya and Gyre who are on very different journey\’s for very different reasons, but kind of fighting for the same cause. The only thing I hated about this was that the sequel is a year away, A YEAR!! Ashes of the Sun is a brilliant introduction to the Burningblade and Silvereye trilogy and I highly highly recommend to anyone and everyone looking for a fantastic read. I for one believe Django Wexler is extremely underrated and needs more attention. So please do me a favor and check out one of my favorite author\’s and give his books some lovin!

Audio Ashes of the Sun (Burningblade & Silvereye #1) narrated by Imogen Church
The story has a good hook . But it is poorly told , hard to grasp and it never seems to quite live up to the promise it has. I found the world building to be a jumble of verbiage that made little to NO sense. I was disappointed . At times the reader fails to grasp the complexity of the storyline and where the author is taking his work. Sometimes the author loses themselves inside a wonderland of of their creation and fails to to take the reader with them. In my opinion this writer failed to bring me , the reader , into his creation . Just to much chaos , to much going on and not enough back story up front . I was lost from the moment I started the book till it ended. Some people may like this but I wasnt one of them.

The sexual content was too much for my own inclination, especially with the focus on alternate life styles. But if you like that, you might like this book. The plot has a few holes and some of the characters are very two-dimensional. Other than that it had potential, though I won\’t be reading anymore of this author.
