Exactly as promised, these intermediate books successfully teach higher level language to intermediate German language learners. After I read a few of these, I found the ZDF app in the Apple AppStore and can watch Krimi tv shows with ease. I’ve started reading these books aloud to improve my pronunciation. I am so happy to have found these books and thank the Author! I can now write letters to my Oma in Germany… something that used to be so daunting that I avoided it entirely! Pair these books with Duolingo and the ZDF app to ramp up your learning!

Perhaps my German reading skill is improving, or perhaps this particular story was not one of Andre Klein’s best efforts, but I found it to be very easy reading. The storyline itself leaves something to be desired, and the action sequence for the finale is a bit farfetched, even if we’re supposed to take it tongue in cheek. His glossary at the end of each chapter is always helpful, but seldom complete, so there’s going to be a few words you need translated that aren’t there. Compared to Der Spieler’s Tod, which was the first Klein book I read, this is a breeze. It’s also a quick read, needing just a couple of hours to get through, and that makes the price drop worth the wait.

Enjoyed the plot of this book. The author does an excellent job in exposing the reader to new vocabulary words, which are repeated throughout the book for reinforcement. Often, I could recognize words that had similar spellings but were actually different words – I found this a great way to learn new words. The author places various idioms throughout the book. Well-written to help the reader gain new vocabulary words. I am on my third krimi by Andre Klein!

This book series is spectacular! They’re fun, can be read over and over and increase German knowledge astonishingly without realizing you’re learning until you’re in a moment of German language being spoken and realize you understand and can contribute! Very much contemporary, accurate language used within the books.
