If you havent read Ryan Gattis before, you better catch up. Each of his books is better than the prior one. The System takes it to a whole different level. I hate reviews which give away the plot. But the characters are so realistic that you feel that you know them. You care what happens. You better not have plans once you pick up this book. Ryan has a complete understanding of the LA criminal justice system and how it applies to the poor. The book tackles the most important issues of our day and leaves you thinking. Crime and Punishment 2020. This is a book not to be missed

The System audiobook streamming online
Crime fiction can give a reader insight into a world they do not know and cannot imagine. ‘The System’ starts with that view and then amps it up to another level. Great crime fiction can make a reader care not only about the characters, but truly care about the reality they inhabit. The “justice” system is rarely about justice, but always about people and the real world around them. Restraining people, judging people, punishing people, that’s the system. This book gave me many insights into that real world and a sustained interest in how The System can be changed. Bravo.

Audiobook The System by Ryan Gattis
No higher regard than the subject heading to this review. Gattis’s work is excellent and you just sit back in awe at the research and detail in his novels. Another excellent street-level tale of everyday LA gang-life. Thrilling, depressing and brilliant in equal measures. I look forward to his next novel.

Would give 6 stars if I could. The characters are so beautifully drawn,, and the plot is fast paced, yet lacking no interesting details. Dreamer is probably one of my favorite all time characters. Utterly stupendous narrative that doesn’t lecture or preach, but the message is still loud and clear.
