Welp, I did it again. I signed up for a TBR (To Be Read List) Challenge. My TBR list has 925 books on it right now so, in theory, this seems like a great idea. Last time I tried it I fell flat on my face, giving up at a whole 2 books. Dont judge, theres just so many shiny new ones coming out all the time! Well, and all my favorite comfort reads calling to me. I mean Horse and Tack are demanding. They deserve at least one or two rereads a year. But, Im determined to at least get one book a month off that list read. I can do that, right? And maybe Ill find someone wholl give Horse a run for his money, or at least keep him company on that top book boyfriend list. You just cant have too many yummy alpha book boyfriends.
First up is book one in a series that keeps popping up on my feeds. I chose Damon from Teresa Gabelmans The Protectors series because it ticks off a lot of my boxes: an alpha vampire in protector mode and a heroine whos a social worker whose goal in life is to take care of the kids placed in her care. Plus its been hanging out on my Kindle App since 2014. Goodness, thats a long time.
It started out great. The vampires outed themselves the year before and since then all sorts of problems have popped up. It seems like vampire blood can be synthesized into some kind of drug so vampires are turning street children into vamps. Some of those children are being placed into foster homes where they are repeatedly drained of their blood for profit. Another problem that has come up is Vampire foster parents taking in human children and then using them for food on tap.
I had all these questions though. Why didnt they place vampire children with vampire parents? And why did they place human children with vampire parents? And dont even get me started on the fact that once turned, Vampire children dont age. So a six-year-old stays forever stuck with a six-year-old body. And it was presented like they forever had to stay in foster care. Um, why. Seems even if they are stuck in that tiny body, they still age in mind and spirit. Unfortunately, I wasnt enlightened with any answers.
Anyway, all my questions aside, these kids needed help as did their poor, beleaguered social workers, especially Nicole. She was like Super Woman, willing to take any risk in order to keep these kids safe. Nicole presented me with a huge conundrum because I really liked her as she was extremely brave and had a heart of gold but O-M-G was she freaking Too Stupid To Live. Literally. Every situation she was faced with I could always predict what she would do as she always picked the dumbest choice. She refused to see the danger she was in and took risks that not only threatened her life but those around her too. And dont even get me started on her Hail Mary play at the end. Actually, TSTL doesnt even begin to cover it.
As for Damon, he was one sexy, hot, vampire. Protective, bossy, and he even had a little bit of a sense of humor. His little I cant have her complex got on my nerves though. He also missed clues that were right in front of him. I cant tell you how many times I said Seriously! You cant figure that out out loud. But my husband probably can since he kept glaring at me when Id interrupt his movie.
This was cute and funny at times, and I did actually like the characters so its unfortunate they werent the sharpest tools in the shed.

Note: I am reviewing eight books. Each review will have cut/paste inserts. I will not write spoilers.
The warriors are alpha vampires with an exaggerated protective mode for the women in their care. All the warriors have a tendency to go ballistic when their specific mates are threatened, even minutely.
They are the Vampire Council Warriors. Brothers in deed to fight against evil. They have operated for centuries to capture, contain, and dispense justice to renegade vampires. Now, the vampire race has declared themselves. They no longer live in secret, but actively live dispersed within human society. This has made the VC Warriors visible to the public, making their jobs more difficult.
The books have strong personality profiles and interaction between the different warriors. It is fun to read the comradery between them. It is also fun to read the bonding between the women as each book brings in a new mate.
Each book has a complete story. Each book leads to the next without cliff hangers. The first question I ask when reviewing books is if I enjoyed them. Yes, I did. These are feel good, happy book with quirky funny things, and steamy sexual situations.
This is the first book of a warrior protector series. Damon is a total hottie, kick-ass warrior. He has a serious, alpha personality. He is there to train humans in the Special Family Service Department on how to protect themselves in a world gone crazy with renegade vampires and humans using children to supply the blood crave.
Nicole is one of the children service workers trying to place human and vampire children into safe homes. She puts herself at risk daily to do everything in her power to ensure her children are safe. Not an easy task in a world ruled by greed and fear. She is stubborn and feisty.
Damon trains and protects her. They fall in love, mate and live HEA… happily ever after.
I will say this to all the books, there are occasional eye rollers. Ignore them, the books are a good, worthy reads. Just enjoy the story!

Audiobook Damon (The Protectors #1) by Teresa Gabelman
**********Contains Spoilers**********
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the connection between Damon and Nicole, even though Damon was an a*sehole half the time as he knew she was his mate but he could never drink from her nor mate with her for really good reasons but does he explain to her whats up thats a negative. I loved the other VC Warriors and cant wait until I read their stories. Nicole a Social Worker at Social Welfare is the best chance the kids she looks after have, shes a real Mother Teresa as she grew up in the system for 18 years so she knows how it works and that not every kid is lucky to find an awesome new family and theres a lot of really bad homes, which Nicole unfortunately has first hand experience so thats why her job and the kids are both so important to her. Before the vampires existence was announced to the world, Nicole wasnt in many bad situations but due to people wanting to adopt/create vampire children and the children were getting used for their blood which makes a drug, Crimson Crush so the VC Warriors are called to teach Nicole and her work colleagues how to defend themselves against a vampire as with this new drugs their home visits are getting more life threatening. Her and Damon have an explosive relationship from the start even if it took them awhile to get their sh*t together. I loved Pam and Nicoles friendship theyre total workmates goals. Im looking forward to seeing what happens next for the VC Warriors. Id recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

Audio Damon (The Protectors #1) narrated by Jeffrey Kafer
Re read this bad boy because i finished blaze and felt like i needed a refresh on some old faces!.
I absolutely love this story just like the first time i read it!. The story is seamless from start to finish. I love how its a perfect blend of action, humour, romance and a little angst to keep it all interesting.
I love Nicole and her sharp tongued humour. She’s loyal to a fault and so selfless you can’t help but instantly love her. I adore how even though she has a shady past she didnt let it affect her in a negative way. Instead it shaped her, making her determined to help all those kids have a better life. Making sure they don’t suffer the fate she did.
Damon is such a frustrating hero but equally super sexy and mysterious. You know he’s hiding things behind those dark eyes and it only pulls you in further. I loved that he just wanted Nicole safe and is willing to do what ever it takes to make sure she is. I was frustrated with the hot and cold attitude but i understood why and in the end you can’t help but love his grumpy psychotic butt!.
Together there are hilarious!. The chemistry is hot!, The banter is hilarious and the angst has you on the edge(even though I’ve read and know what happens). The story is just seamless from start to finish and i love it more than i did the first time. Also gives you chance to re-read the small bits you sometimes miss or catch a line you forgot you loved. Plus i love all the guys and it’s great to start over and get to know them all again.

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers
There are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can . (Which is why I have rated it as three stars)
Other than that the storyline isn’t inventive or particularly engaging although the concept of a social worker dealing with vampire children is a great idea. The characterisation isn’t great, with Damon being one dimensional, and the FL being strong of character but stupid by default apparently. It’s the whole fated mate thing again and it’s not particularly well crafted.
There are some sex scenes and some swearing. I won’t be purchasing the next book in this series
