I have read all of Her Royal Spyness books and have now listened to them as well. This last book wasn\’t my favorite, probably because of the entitled, bed-hopping characters, but it was okay. The narration on this book and the last, however, is awful. I knew Katherine Kelgren would be hard to replace but there are lots of other great narrators. The plucky Georgie sounds alternately whiny and snooty, and Darcy sound breathy and wimpy. Jasmine Blackborow doesn\’t seem to understand the characters. I will just read the ebooks from now on unless another narrator reads them.

My least favorite in the series. The twist of marriage is fine, but I missed the quirky maid and the normal Georgie…and well I am a huge fan and just didn’t care for this book.

Audiobook Love and Death Among the Cheetahs (Royal Spyness #13) by Rhys Bowen
Georgie and Darcy are on their honeymoon. Story is much less interesting than usual; Georgie seems much more whiny and unsure of herself; Darcy comes off as sleasy (I\’m not sure why I had that impression); lots of new characters, but none I cared about. Only one quick appearance by a singke cheetah, by the way.

Oh this is not the easiest review to write. Because I am a lover of the series. I have listened to the books more times than I can count. They have been on repetition for about 4 years. Yes that has always been thanks to the wonderful narration of Katherine Kellgren. And yes I have known for the last few books that the stories have been getting a little duller. But no matter I pushed on. The only positive thing I can say here is Jasmine Blackborow was the only saving grace of this book. I was so worried that it would be drastically different from Four Funerals and Maybe a Wedding. Because I do love continuation. So thank you Jasmine! Thank you for giving a great performance. As for the story. Rhys is continuously focused on repetition. Something I have complained about in previous books. But we seem to be taking this to new highs here. Really I think it\’s time to get an editor who will fix this. The story itself seems to be dirtier than usual. I don\’t know maybe I am getting cranky in my old age. Whilst we had a few dirty scenes in previous books there has always been more of an implication into how naughty everyone is. Really I would have preferred Queenie in this book to lift the mood a little. I know she isn\’t a favorite of many others but she just brings the tone back to earth. I felt that I was unable to connect to any of the new characters in the book. Whereas in previous books I felt that they were more established. Even if they were one-off characters. I loved the setting just not the story. So much lost potential. I hold my breath for the next book hoping its more to form. Else maybe, and this is sad for me to write, we should close off the story altogether.

I have loved the whole Royal Spyness series until now. None of the characters have any redeeming qualities so who cared who killed who? The regulars (Queenie, Belinda, etc). are absent. It seemed like the author got bored herself, so the murderer confessed for no reason, The End.
