This is not a short story. It is Chapter One in the next Alex McKnight novel. Well written as you would expect from Hamilton, but leaves you hanging.

Riddle Island (Alex McKnight #11.5) audiobook streamming online

As a former Michigander, I’ve always enjoyed the McKnight series. When I saw the teaser about Riddle Island, I was anxious to read this short story as it combined all of the intrigue from 1970’s Michigan. What is written in the short story was captivating, but the end was unfinished. I read from my Kindle, so when I went to the next page and it went to the rating and other book recommendations, I thought my Kindle was omitting the remainder of the story. So much more could have been done to end this short story.

Audiobook Riddle Island (Alex McKnight #11.5) by Steve Hamilton

Mr. Hamilton has done us fans an incredible disservice. Alex McKnight is one of the great fictional detectives of all time. Surely this could have been a wonderful novel. The writing is as tight as wed expect from this series. The characters are there, and the mystery hold us. Why oh why is it only a short story. I loved every single page.

The protagonist’s motivation is weak and the investigation, if you could call it that, was contrived. It isn’t worth a dime, much less the price charged. Very disappointed in this author.
