Gah!! I absolutely love this series. Yeah, I know I gave book 2 only 4 stars but… I feel like the relationship development isn’t strong enough for me to be believable.

Let me be clear… I love Loki. I love Tove. I can’t stand Finn. I think her strongest connection is with Tove and while I totally understand why they can’t be together together, I wish that there was as much effort in convincing me that there were reasons behind her “love” for Finn. Feeling butterflies isn’t enough to convince me someone is in love.
And to be honest… Loki hasn’t even been in the story much and HE gave me more feelings than Finn has in two whole books. I’m excited about the prospect of what Loki can bring to the story.

Okay, so other than the romance… I think this world is wonderful. Absolutely fantastically beautiful! Seriously, I have been obsessed since page one! I didn’t have patience to go out and buy books 2 & 3 so I bought them on my kindle.

I can’t say enough how much I love it. Wendy, FINALLY, is growing up! Elora is more nurturing (in her own way). Matt 🙂 🙂 🙂 Matt is even good in the story. (<3)

I kinda wish her dad wasn’t a total freak. As someone who grew up without a dad I always feel grief over characters who share that. I always root for some kind of relationship and it usually ends up breaking my heart but what can ya do?

**Side Note **
I laughed a lot in this book. I have no idea if any of it was actually meant to be funny but I love Duncan. He is so adorable and funny! Sweet too!

Well well well…. one beautifully written book. Scratch that, its PERFECT! It’s only book two, but omg one of the bests! Most books after the first one just talk until it finally picks up from book two. Now Torn went on like Switched never ended.

We are in Wendy’s home again and is just explains to Matt how Rhys is his actual brother. Matt of course is as lost as any Manks could be. So its time to just sleep it off. Though night one at home didn’t work out to well. Mainly for the fact that Wendy didn’t even get to sleep in her bed! Finn jumps through her window and tries to get her to go home. Wendy won’t go and so Finn just waits for her new tracker to come. Once he arrives, he isn’t very good at getting Wendy to leave either. To make her night even more annoying, the Vittra show up and take Wendy, Matt and Rhys to their castle.
……
So now Wendy is out of the cell and taken to Sara, King Oren’s wife. The king isn’t to bad, he just casually talks to Wendy. Explaining that eventually Wendy will have to pick which Kingdom to rule. Confused? Well dont be, Oren is just Wendy’s dad, you know, no biggie. When you read about him explaining about Wendy’s mother and his experience with him, you will just see Elora as a BITCH. At least I found her to be one, though I couldn’t like her much in book one. So if you do like Elora, you might question that once you read this book.
……
So I’m just going to skip into the book more, so that I can give you all more detail of the book. Plus it’ll help with me ranting on about one part of the book and ignoring the rest. Some how I’ve been doing that and forget to tell you all more about the book.
….
Now back into the story. So after Finn and some boys show up at the palace, Wendy and the boys all escape. Well they just walked through the front door. So maybe escape isn’t the right word, but it fits. Since they weren’t technically supposed to leave…anywho they all head back the Elora’s palace. Matt and Rhys go to their rooms and Wendy storms to Elora’s room. Boy is she mad! Wensy yells so much and Elora is just so UGHHHHHHHHHHH! I can’t exactly swear the way I want…Never know what age is reading this. But UGH you will be flipping out. Torn is unbelievably perfect! You will put yourself in this book and fight/yell along with these characters!

What made me laugh in this book, was Wendy, Rhys and Matt are in the kitchen getting food. Willa comes into the room and things get entertaining. So she is rich and thinks that the world is at her command. Well newsflash miss snob, the world isn’t yours. She doesn’t like Matt, hates when Wendy calls him her brother, and no one is serving her. You want a water? You know where the fridge is. Ha! Love when a snob gets out in her place! I can’t really stand Willa when she gets in that whole snob side of her. Then when she acts normal, she is easy to deal with. Though what’s funny is that she and Matt hang out…a little more than you’d think. Hm…interesting.
……..
Jumping closer to them end. Wendy finds out the way Finn and all trackers live. She doesn’t like the way they live. They deserve better. Finn acts all harsh at Wendy, its all a job to him. Loki got into the palace and Wendy must find out why he’s there. When she talks to him, she isn’t sure what to think, though she does fight for keeping him alive.

The ending of the book is so damn good! Wendy is such a strong character. Love love love, strong female characters. Makes me happy, plus I’m finding a lot of books having more strong female characters. Male characters are still out there, but happy to see that the girls are taking over (: I’m so glad I bough the last two books the same day, because I’m going to dive in that book right now! I’ll be giving this book 5 stars!

Review #3

Audiobook Torn (Trylle #2) by Amanda Hocking

My review:

The second book in the Trylle series, Torn, is picking up exactly where Switched ended. Wendy is back at home, trying to avoid Matt’s questions about her whereabouts when she was gone. Wendy also brought Rhys back at home, a boy who was switched with Wendy when newborn and taken to Trylle.

Wendy tries to get settled back at her home, but she can’t. She is being kidnapped by Vittra trackers and taken to prison. This is where she first meets her real father and learn more about her mother, past and about her dad. Besides that, she sees Loki again and Loki helps her and her brothers to escape after Tove, Finn and other are coming to save her.

Back in Frening Wendy realizes how important her role is and grows with the task. She also understands, that she will have no future with Finn, because Finn is so bound to old traditions and Wendy is like a fresh breath of air wanting to change things. Wendy makes some huge sacrifices of her personal life to step in as a Princess.

I have to admit, that somewhere in the middle of this book, the author lost my attention. I kept reading, but there were things on this plot which I did not understand, for example the necessity of Wendy getting married. Besides, Finn appeared to be totally different that I hoped for. The main thing which saved this plot and the story for me, was the character development, which I enjoyed.

Characters:

I loved Loki! He is hot and sweet and spicy altogether. Besides that dangerous and strong and he literally stole the place of the most well written character in this book! I enjoyed his playfulness and his protectiveness towards Wendy.

Tove grew on me even more in Torn. He would be a nice friend to have -loyal, smart, independent, supportive. I liked how he rebelled against the traditions in the first book, and I loved how he did things his own way and helped Wendy pushing through her ideas.

I had mixed feelings about Wendy in Torn. In one way, I did understood her sacrifices, at the same time I missed seeing more of the Wendy from the first book, who did things which were good to her. As a character, Wendy grew more responsible, but I think she lost herself in that. Thank god, there was Loki to jazz her up!

Generally:

Torn was a good sequel to Switched. It was smoothly written and had intriguing characters. I am very curious about how the story ends. Recommended!

Audio Torn (Trylle #2) narrated by Therese Plummer

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!

I really enjoyed reading this book!
We meet the new character Loki in the second chapter of the book (I think) when he kidnaps Wendy, Matt and Rhys. Later on we find out that he’s a Markis of the Vittra (who are the Trylle’s enemies). I had conflicting emotions about Loki. On one hand, I think he’s a really bad influence and I’m certain that if he and Wendy were to get together it would cause a whole lot of trouble and on the other hand, I think he might just be misunderstood. He seems to be scared of the Vittra and seems to be very vulnerable, but I don’t know if it’s just an act or not. He and Wendy kiss later on in the book but Wendy doesn’t take him up on his offer to run away and instead heads back into Elora’s mansion.
I really enjoyed seeing Wendy’s character develop and become more mature as she learnt how much she would have to deal with when she becomes Queen and how soon it might happen since her mother – Elora – is dying. I love Wendy’s character because she’s so strong willed and always sticks up for what she thinks is the right decision/choice for The Trylle, and she’ll continue fighting until someone listens. I wasn’t a big fan of the relationship between Finn and Wendy in this book. In fact, I wasn’t a big fan of Finn altogether. He was so arrogant and horrible to Wendy in this book that it made me question whether I actually want him and Wendy to be together. I was rooting for them all the way through Switched, but after reading this, I’m not too sure whether Finn and Wendy would make a great couple. I know they can’t be together because Wendy is a princess and Finn is a tracker, but I always hoped they might find a way, but it doesn’t look like they will.
I liked Elora much more in this book because we got a deeper understanding of what she went through when she was Wendy’s age and we also learned that she had been pushing Wendy because she’s going to die soon. I’m not too sure if I’m that bothered that Elora will probably die in the next book, but I know it will affect Wendy in a lot of ways.
We were also introduced to Tove more in this book as he and Wendy got engaged. Although they don’t love each other, they think that their partnership will benefit the Trylle community so they decide to go through with it (even though Tove’s gay and I’m pretty sure we found out who he has a massive crush on). I really don’t agree with this part because I think it’s extremely unfair that they don’t get to be with the person that they love. That they’ll have to live a lie for their whole lives just to benefit their community.
Rhys, Matt and Willa also make an appearance in this book, with Matt and Willa becoming involved with each other which is against the rules because Matt’s a human and Willa’s a Marksinna.
I enjoyed the character development throughout this book and how I learnt what each character was actually like.
I love the world created in these books and I love the detail that Amanda Hocking goes into to explain it. My favourite part of the world (and Wendy’s) is the back garden. It sounds like a stunningly beautiful place and the picture I have of it in my head probably doesn’t even do it justice. I like the unique idea Amanda had of the way she was going to write trolls into a story, because whenever I think of a troll, I think of a small green monster that lives under a bridge. But Amanda’s trolls look exactly like humans, they just have weird habits.
I also loved learning more about the Vittra and why the Trylle and Vittra have been at war for so long because I never really understood it in the first book. I was also intrigued by the differences between the Vittra and the Tryll: The Vittra’s power lie in physical strength and longevity whereas the Trylle’s power comes from psychokinesis.
Although there were a lot of things about the story I didn’t like, it roped me in and I couldn’t put it down, so I gave this book 4/5 Stars.

I was totally hooked from the start. It has been a while since I read the first part, Switched, but when I started to read Torn I was immediately drawn to the world of Wendy’s. The book is full of strong characters and although I did fell in love with Wendy and Finn in the first part I found myself getting lost with the other characters too. For example: Matt, he’s THE big brother any girl would want. A strong and silent type that would do anything to protect his sister. Rhys, gentle and funny. Loki, there’s something irresistible about him…and not just his good looks…Elora, there has to be something that will melt her stony heart…

Torn is an absolute must read! A refreshing paranormal story that you simply can’t put down until you hit the last page and after that…well, you find yourself turning pages of Ascend, the third part of Trylle Trilogy…
