To Italy I go!
Ahh, after reading this lovely story I really want to go to Italy and follow in Angie’s steps. I’ve been saying Ciao Bella to myself all day long (it’s about the only Italian I can haha)
If You Could Go Anywhere is about a woman Angie that have since she was a kid wanted to follow her deceased mother’s footsteps when she travelled all over the world. Angie lives in Coober Pedy in Australia – a mining town that has people from all over the world working. From them, she learns about places of the world, their languages, food, customs and so on.
That Angie biggest dream is to travel is very clear to everyone as she has asked everyone she has met if you could go anywhere, where would you go?.
But Angie’s plans have been delayed for years when her grandmother fell ill. We enter the story as she’s in grief from the loss of her grandmother, and scared to take that first step to leave the town for the world.
I loved the community in Coober Pedy. In a very short time, you really get to feel how much Angie means to all of them.
The big push for Angie to leave is when she by accident finds a letter from her mother to her father, telling about her falling pregnant. Angie has never known her father, and all she knows about him is that he is a bad man. Will Angie be brave enough to find her dad? And what sort of family and history will she find?
The story is taking place in Italy, and all the pages ooze of the joy of travelling, adventures, summer, Italian charm and family 🙂
The pages flew by and yet again I was reminded why Paige Toon is my favorite author. She knows how to make me smile and cry at the same time.
It got scary and dark parts too, but can’t tell you much as it would spoil the story.
If you loved The Longest Holiday, you will love If You Could Go Anywhere.

The story starts amazingly but it doesn’t keep this level.
You can see Paige Toon made good research about Italy and about Rome. But good reasearch doesn’t make a good story. For me threre were too many people mentioned in the book, too many side stories about people that I didn’t care about. So much small talk about nothing that promotes or contribute to the story.
Because of that I couldn’t see the connection between Angie and Alessandro.
There wasn’t any chemistry between them.
Besides he was too weird.
And in the end everything was wraped up too easily.
